There's this spot in the school library in which I've staked my claim since the end of my first semester freshman year. (Yes, I remember when it was during my college career. Yes, I even remember what part of the semester it was...I tend to mark time by which books I am reading, and I had just discovered The Poisonwood Bible and this spot right before Christmas 2002.) Anyway, this is where I tend to head any time I am looking to do some reading and/or studying in the library...third floor, all the way to the back, a bit over to the right. It's an alcove with bayed windows that overlooks Calhoun Street. The sun slants in the tall, narrow windows (the ones with the pane of red glass at the top), and it's the perfect place to curl up in an armchair, soak up the warm sunshine, and read.
So this morning I head into the library armed with notes and my textbook...ready to do some last minute studying for my Old Testament exam...and of course I head back to my spot. The greatest part of it is that it's quieter than the rest of the library but not as creepy and abandoned as the law section (no thanks!). I tromp back there, psyched up to study...but no. My spot is taken...by someone eating sugar cubes and listening to an iPod. My whole study system grinded to a halt. I had to backtrack, sit in a cubical, and grumble about the disturbance. If I do poorly on this test, I will no doubtedly blame this guy.
Here's to you, Sugar-cube-eating-iPod-listener...here's to you.

Please don't lump all iPod listeners in the same category. I don't go around stealing peoples' spots in libaries.
