Preparing for another move...can you get comfortable not getting too comfortable in any one place?
I made my first attempt to go to Satchmo Fest today...and I failed. Just as I parked the car (no easy feat on those tiny French Quarter side streets and with my lack of parallelling skills), torrents of rain fell...just like they've been falling for weeks. I wonder sometimes if anyone else tenses up slightly when it rains so much. I've spent nearly a year saturated. Sometimes I'd like to move to
Other than the monsoon, today was lovely. Lots of driving down long roads with WWOZ blaring on the radio. Just me and the road and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I went to visit my sister and nieces, and I took Lily (the seven year old) for a ride in my car. It's a new-to-me clunker that runs like a dream compared to the last one I owned...but it has no air conditioning. Lily and I were flying down the winding roads of Pearl River, and I looked in my rearview mirror and wished I wasn't driving so I could snap a picture. All four windows were down, and Lily was sitting in the middle of the back seat, eyes closed, smile on her face, arms in the air, and hair blowing everywhere in the wind. It was beautiful. I think that might be my favorite mental picture of her, my precious girl. It was very Pablo Neruda...
